About Dandraua Dham
Dandraua Dham, also known as Dandraua Hanuman Temple, is a famous religious destination in the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. The temple is particularly known for its unique form of Lord Hanuman, who is popularly worshipped here as “Doctor Hanuman.” Devotees from Gwalior, Bhind, Madhya Pradesh and other parts of India visit this sacred place to seek blessings and spiritual peace.
The temple is located in Dandraua village, Mehgaon Tehsil, Bhind district, and is surrounded by a strong atmosphere of faith, devotion and traditional religious practices.
History and Establishment of Dandraua Dham
Dandraua Dham is believed to be around 300 years old. According to local religious traditions, the divine idol of Lord Hanuman appeared from the hollow of an ancient tree. This miraculous origin is one of the important reasons behind the deep faith associated with the temple.
The sacred place has traditionally been associated with Brahmaleen Gurubaba Shri Shri 108 Lakshman Das Ji Maharaj and his disciple Brahmaleen Mahant Baba Purushottam Das Ji Maharaj, who regarded this place as an important centre of spiritual practice.
At present, the religious activities of the Dham are carried forward under the guidance of Mahamandaleshwar Sant Shri Shri 1008 Ramdas Ji Maharaj.
Why Is Dandraua Hanuman Called “Doctor Hanuman”?
One of the most interesting aspects of Dandraua Dham is the name Doctor Hanuman.
According to the popular belief associated with the temple, a saint once suffered from a serious illness in the form of a painful abscess. It is believed that Lord Hanuman appeared before him in the form of a doctor and helped him recover from the illness.
Because of this traditional belief, devotees began to affectionately worship the deity as Doctor Hanuman. The name has now become closely associated with Dandraua Dham.
The word Dandraua is also traditionally associated with the expression “Dwand-Rua,” which is interpreted locally in connection with removing pain and suffering.
Note: These healing beliefs are part of local religious faith and tradition and should not be considered a substitute for medical treatment.
Unique Dancing and Sakhi Form of Lord Hanuman
Another major attraction of Dandraua Dham is the unique appearance of the Hanuman idol.
Lord Hanuman is depicted in a dancing posture, which devotees traditionally describe as the Sakhi form. This unusual representation makes the temple different from many other Hanuman temples.
The distinctive form of the deity is one of the main reasons devotees and tourists are interested in visiting Dandraua Dham. The temple’s unique Hanuman idol is also associated with recognition in World Records India.
